(For Akiyoshi) The person in the upper image appears to gaze toward us, but its mirror image appears to see rightward for her. For some observers, the person in the upper image appears to gaze leftward for her, while its mirror image appears to look at us.

"Moon above the Kamigamo shrine"

This work shows a new illusion like the Poggendorff illusion. Which moon falls in line with the right edge of the white road? The answer appears to be the right moon, but actually the left moon is aligned (see the photo below).

"Osa illusion in the Kamigamo shrine"

Both edges of the road appear to form an acute angle, but actually the angle is obtuse (see the photo below). This illusion is called "Osa illusion" after the name of the researcher who reported this illusion in 2010. The Osa illusion was awarded the first prize of the second Illusion Contest in Japan.
