Diagonals in the piles of diamonds appear to be lighter than they are (= Vasarely illusion).


"Goishi tilt illusion"

Each row of three stones (goishi) appears to tilt clockwise though each is actually vertical.
(Some people reported to me that this image gives a weak illusion magnitude)

"Gold coins"

A pile of gold coins sometimes appears to swing horizontally.

The illusion of this work looks like the swinging-motion illusion presented by Khang and Esscok (2000)*. I imagine the same mechanism underlying these illusions, but I do not know whether they like this story or not.

"A balloonfish"

Spines are actually aligned in concentric circles but appear to form spirals. When observers approach or move away from the image fixating at the center, the spines appear to rotate. The mouth may appears to rotate counterclockwise a little.
