"Bounce-contingent extinction illusion"
("Bounce-contingent blindness"may be modern though I prefer "illusion")

This animation is a reversible stimulus, where two appearances are observed. One is that two faces appear to rotate clockwise while the other two appear to rotate counterclockwise. The other appearance is that the four faces appear to go to and fro as if two faces collided each other and bounced. When observers see the faces go to and fro, the frames (shown below) where two faces meet appear to extinguish. On the other hand, they are visible when observers see rotation.

and

Of course, there is no extinction illusion when animation is slow (see below).

"Extinction" does not mean that the image processing of the frames is suppressed. For example, if the frames are replaced with blanks, the motion appearance is unstable (see below). It seems that the frames are visually processed but are prevented from entering the "consciousness" when the appearance is "bounce". There is also another possibility that extinction generates the bouncing effect.

100ms/frame

"Extinction" does not occur when observers see usual bouncing animations (see below).

"Transformation of faces"
(This phenomenon is known since Kanizsa)

This animation is a reversible stimulus, where two appearances are observed. One is that the face with white hair appear to rotate clockwise while the other face with yellow hair appear to rotate counterclockwise. The other appearance is that the two faces appear to go to and fro as if the two faces collided each other and bounced. When observers see the faces go to and fro, the face appears to change to the other face. Moreover, the frames where two faces meet appear to extinguish. On the other hand, they are visible when observers see rotation.

"Upside-down face overestimation illusion"

The lower face appears to be larger than the upper one though they are identical in size.
