"Obake-hime"

obake = ghost; hime = princess or girl

The whites of the eyes appear to be brighter than white, though they are the same white as the surround.

"Hurry Border and the Goblet of Fire"

The left goblet is the same in color and texture as the right one, but the former appears to be reddish while the latter bluish.

"No binocular rivalry in the color constancy eye"

Try to fuse them binocularly. Then, the left eye shows binocular rivalry between orange and green, while the right eye does not. This observation is remarkable since the right eye is the same color as the left eye in each image.

This phenomenon might suggest that color constancy should reflect a rather low-level visual process.

"Binocular rivalry in the color constancy eye"

Try to fuse them binocularly. Then, the right eye sometimes shows binocular rivalry between cyan and red, while the left eye does not. This observation is remarkable since the right eye is the same gray for each image.

This phenomenon might also support the idea that color constancy should reflect a rather low-level visual process.

Disks appear to rotate.

Rings appear to rotate.

"Red Hering grid illusion"

Red Hering grid illusion is observed when seen at some distance.

"Moving snakes with shadows"

Snakes appear to move horizontally.

"Green and blue hearts"

There appear to be hearts of light green or light blue. Actually, they are identical (R=0, G=255, B=150). When fusing neighboring hearts binocularly, observers may see stereopsis of the heart shape and binocular rivalry between these two illusory colors*. Fused hearts may appear to move laterally; this appearance depends on vergence eye movement.

* I do not see rivalry but stable fused color.

"Hearts"

There appear to be hearts of orange and pink. Actually, they are identical (R=255, G=255, B=104). When fusing neighboring hearts binocularly, observers may see stereopsis of the heart shape and binocular rivalry between these two illusory colors*. Fused hearts may appear to move laterally; this appearance depends on vergence eye movement.

"Blue kinkaku"

The color of gold leaf appears to be gold, though the physical color is slightly bluish gray, actually.
