[APCV2014] 'Second Call' for Demo Night

Dear APCV2014 participants,

We want to thank all applicants to Demo Night at APCV2014.
Their requests on space and equipment are to be fully granted.

Yet, there is still some space. I would be even happier if we could
have more demos.

Demo Night is oriented to entertainment purposes and the relation
to poster/oral presentation is not necessary. Classic demonstrations
are OK.

Presenters can leave their demos for Banquet.

The new deadline for proposal is June 29, 2014.

We would highly appreciate your contribution.

Best regards,

Akiyoshi

APCV 2014 -- 'Second Call' for Demo Night

Demo Night will be organized by Dr. Akiyoshi Kitaoka (Ritsumeikan University)
and held during the official Banquet on July 21 (Mon) evening. The demonstration
can be a novel illusion, a variant of an old one, a fascinating visual effect, etc.

Applicants have to be responsible for the shipping and handling of instruments,
as well as put-up, put-down, and presentation of the demos.

The following information must be included in proposals:
- The title and a brief description of the demonstration
- Contact e-mail address
- Space required* (e.g.: 1m x 0.5m table, 2m x 2m floor space)

(1.8m x 0.45m). Applicants can request additional space and/or tables.

distant from any of the universities or institutes of the APCV organizing committee members.

APCV 2014 -- First Call for Demos ('Demo Night' and 'Poster Demo')

The 10th Asia-Pacific Conference on Vision (APCV) will be held in Takamatsu, Japan between July 19 (Sat) - 22 (Tue), 2014.
Details of the conference can be found at
http://www.visionsociety.jp/apcv2014/

The conference will host *two types* of opportunities for participants to present a demonstration or exhibit something related to their research; one is called Demo Night, and the other is Poster Demo.
Please read the following information carefully before sending an application.

1. Demo Night
'Demo Night' will be organized by Dr. Akiyoshi Kitaoka (Ritsumeikan University) and held during the official Banquet on July 21 (Mon) evening. The demonstration can be a novel illusion, a variant of an old one, a fascinating visual effect, etc.

2. Poster Demo
'Poster Demo' can be a supplement of poster presentation that needs extra space for demonstrations. The space will be provided for two or three presentations on each day at the end of the poster-presentation hall. The demos must be related to the poster from the same author(s) and can be presented on the same day as the poster presentation.

Note that the Poster Demo is a part of technical presentations and is strictly limited to academic purpose. The demos must be related to the poster presentation at APCV2014. The Demo Night is rather oriented to entertainment purposes and the relation to poster/oral presentation is not necessary.

Also note that the applicants have to be responsible for the shipping and handling of instruments, as well as put-up, put-down, and presentation of the demos in both types.

Some Demo Night applications could be asked to present in Poster Demo instead of Demo Night, and vice versa.

Application or proposal is necessary.
The following information must be included in proposals:
- Preference: 'Demo Night' or 'Poster Demo'; 'only' or 'preferred'
- Title of related presentation at APCV2014 (for both types; if applicable)
- The title and a brief description of the demonstration (for Demo Night)
- Contact e-mail address
- Space required* (e.g.: 1m x 0.5m table, 2m x 2m floor space)
- Equipment request** (e.g. AC power extension cord, screen, projector, poster board, etc.)

* For both types, the basic floor size is 1.8m x 1.8m per presentation. All space will be provided with a table (1.8m x 0.45m for Demo Night; 1.8m x 0.6m for Poster Demo). Applicants may request additional space and/or tables, if necessary, upon application.
Please understand that requests are not always accepted because of the limitation of space and arrangement.

** Note that not all equipment requests will be accepted because Takamatsu the venue city is distant from any of the universities or institutes of the APCV organizing committee members.
Request for electric (AC) power supply must be sent upon application. The maximum usage is limited to 200W / 100V, and don't forget to bring your own plug adapter.

*** Applications may possibly be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis because of the limited size of the room.

---APCV2014 regular presentation---

Guideline for presenters

1. Oral presentation

· For regular paper (neither symposium nor keynote) speakers: prepare your slide for 15 minutes slot, including 3 minutes for discussions.

· For symposium speakers: contact the organizer of each symposium for details.

· Bring your own PC for the slide presentation, or contact APCV2014 organizing committee (inquiry_apcv2014@googlegroups.com) in advance for the arrangement of PC for your presentation.

· Analog VGA (D-Sub 15 pin) connector is available. Bring your interface adapter, if necessary. Bring all of your backup files for the slide presentation, including movies, in a USB memory device or CD/DVD for just in case.

· Screen resolution depends on the PC. Please check the connection in each room between the sessions. We have no slide-preparation room.

· Remember that additional setup delays would cut into your presentation time. Two oral sessions are running in parallel, and strict time control will be required.

2. Poster presentation

· Poster-board size: 1,700mm (width) x 1,100mm (height) at the maximum.

· All posters of each day should be put up from morning (no later than 10:45AM JST) to evening (no earlier than 5:00PM JST), regardless of your assigned duty hours. Note that poster hall closes at 6:00PM.

· No AC power outlet is available at the poster board. Please full-charge your demo PC before duty hours. Chairs and tables are not available for each poster in the hall.

· Some chairs will be prepared for the convenience of aged attendees or those with disabilities. Please ask us for the help, when necessary.

For other questions contact APCV2014 organizing committee (inquiry_apcv 2014@googlegroups.com) for details.

Parreira Katy, Italy, has uploaded a movie on YouTube on October 10, 2013, which shows that her cat Molly (seven years old) appears to see the "Rotating snakes" illusion. I think this is the second piece of evidence that cats see motion illusion in a static image.
