Stereograms

Free-fuse each pair of neighbors. Then you will see a stereoscopic object.

Access since February 13, 2005

"Explanation of binocular stereopsis"

When A is nearer to the observer than is B, the image of A is projected to a more temporal part in each retina than that of B (binocular disparity). Based upon this disparity, the brain produces binocular stereopsis of the positions of A and B.

means the right eye in Japanese (probably also in Chinese), whilemeans the left eyes.

The upper stereogram is availble for uncross-fusers while the lower one for cross-fusers.

Several parts appear to tilt in the depth direction.

"Hanabi 2"

Columns appear to be alternately placed in one of the two different depths, though the columns (rectangles) have no disparity.

There is binocular rivarly, too. 'Hanabi' are fireworks.

"Back to the future through the window of enlightenment"

The blue square appears to move back when it appears behind the windows.

Copyright Akiyoshi.Kitaoka 2005 (June 2)

It seems that the blue square appears to only shrink in the same depth when it has crossed disparity (Varin's figure). I am afraid there are many individual differences.

Igaigamushi shows rotational illusion.

"Inaiinai baa"*
*peekaboo

Incomplete correspondence can generate stereopsis, accompanied by transparency.

"Eyes"

Ellipses that incline in depth appear. In addition, the central circle appears to be shorter in height than the flanks.

"Absorbent mesh"

The depth of the mesh tends to be flush with the depth of the circle at which observers fixate.
