Motion contrast and motion assimilation (motion caprture)

since September 5, 2014

Motion assimilation (motion capture) demo using the Rotating snakes illusion (optimized Fraser-Wilcox illusion): The upper-left and lower-right red rings appear to rotate counterclockwise whereas the upper-right and the lower-left ones clockwise.

cf. Ichikawa, M. and Masakura, Y. (2014). Basis for motion capture in terms of illusory motion signal obtained from oblique lines. Perception, 43, 767-782

Motion assimilation (motion capture) demo using a rotating version of the Ouchi-Spillmann illusion: The ring made up of red dots appears to rotate counterclockwise when observers approach the image fixating at the center, whereas it appears to rotate clockwise when they move away from the image. Moreover, the ring appears to expand or contract when observers rotate the image fixating at the center.

Motion contrast demo using a rotating version of the Ouchi-Spillmann illusion: The ring made up of red dots appears to rotate rclockwise when observers approach the image fixating at the center, whereas it appears to rotate counterclockwise when they move away from the image. Moreover, the ring appears to expand or contract when observers rotate the image fixating at the center.

Motion assimilation (motion capture) demo using a rotating version of the illusion of Y-junctions: The ring made up of red dots appears to rotate counterclockwise when observers approach the image fixating at the center, whereas it appears to rotate clockwise when they move away from the image.
